I shook frantically as I walked down the dark street. I was choking out sobs while I had my arms wrapped around myself. I was cold and alone. Two of the things I hated.
My boyfriend hit me. I don’t know what I did wrong. He slapped me, called me a bitch and told me to get out of his face. He was drunk, but I’m not tolerating that as an excuse.
I broke out into a run, wanting to get to Buck’s faster. I wanted to see Dally. Though, maybe that wasn’t such a good idea, as Dally was the one who told me not to date him. Dallas knew he was going to be trouble, and he was right.
I ran as fast as I could, taking long strides with every step. Once Buck’s place came into view, I slowed into a quick jog. My chest was heaving and I could barely breathe.
I ran up the steps and ran into the building. I wasn’t looking where I was going, and the tears were blocking my vision. I ran straight into someone.
"I-I’m so sorry." I said meekly as I wiped my eyes with my sleeve. I looked up and a shirtless Dally stood in front of me. He sobered up when he saw me.
"What the hell happened?" He asked.
"H-he broke up with me." I shook my head and ran a hand through my hair.
"See, what did I tell ya-"
"And he called me a bitch and h-hit me." I put my face in my hands.
He looked at me with a very angry expression.
"That rat bastard." Dally said, mostly to himself. "Come with me." He grabbed my hand and dragged me upstairs to his room.
I sat on the bed as he rummaged through the drawers.
"Where were you?" Dally asked.
"I was at a party, he brought me upstairs and I told him to stop drinking so much and then he hit me and broke up with me."
"Where was the party?"
"The house across from the school."
Dally shut the drawer but I didn’t see what he grabbed.
He threw on his jacket.
"I’ll be right back." He headed for the door. I knew exactly what he was going to do. I quickly scurried and wrapped my arms around his arm in an attempt to keep him back.
"Dal, please don’t do this. It’s a Soc party, if you start a fight there you’ll be outnumbered and I don’t want you getting hurt." He looked at me. "Please don’t go," I pleaded.
"No, I am gonna go. No one is gonna do something like that to you and get away with it, alright? Don’t worry about me, I’m gonna be fine." He grabbed a book from on top of the dresser and he shoved it to me. "Here, read this. It’ll give you something to do." He ripped his arm from my grasp and left in haste.
Dally approached the house. He was consumed with rage. Partly because she didn’t listen to him, but mostly because what that Soc did to her.
He pushed passed the hoard of people on the inside of the house. The music was blasting. It was a classic high school party.
Dally shoved past people for a few minutes before he finally found the guy he was looking for, James.
James was about the same size as Dally, but James was a bit skinnier. Dally wouldn’t have to do much to take him down.
He grabbed James on the shoulder and spun him around forcefully.
"What the hell man?" He slurred. He was obviously drunk.
"Are you (y/n)’s boyfriend?" Dally asked, almost cringing at the word ‘boyfriend’
"No, I dumped that broad. She’s so damn boring and she was a total bitch." That’s when Dally lost it. He flung his fist and planted it straight into James’ nose. James stumbled back and everyone turned towards them.
"HEY A GREASER!" One from the crowd shouted.
"GET EM!" Another shouted.
All the boys charged towards him. They tackled him. One of the Socs pulled out a blade and cut his neck, while another kicked him in the stomach. Another punched him in the nose leaving a nasty trail of blood down his face.
Dally didn’t know what to do, so he pulled out his heater. It wasn’t loaded of course. He cocked it and pointed it at the Soc that cut his neck. The Soc threw his hands up and started backing away, the others followed his actions.
Dally grabbed James who was still on the ground. Dally wrapped his arm around his neck and held the unloaded gun to his head.
"No one moves or the kid gets it!" Dally shouted.
He directed his attention towards James.
"If you ever dare hurt (y/n) again, I’ll make it my personal business to get rid of you." Dally said lowly. James struggled in Dally’s grip. "Do you understand?" Dally asked through gritted teeth.
"Y-yes." James managed to choke out.
Dally released James from his grip and let him drop to the ground. Everyone stood in silence as Dally walked out of the house with his head held high.
I was laying on the bed with the book on my face. I didn’t feel like reading. I wanted to be with Dally. The only reason I dated James was because Dally had a girlfriend. Now he’s single, and I’m happy I am too. I just wish I knew where he was.
I was startled when I heard the door click then creak open. I removed the book from my face and sat up.
"Dally!" I exclaimed as I jumped off the bed and ran to him. I gasped when I saw the blood running from his nose down to his chin and he nasty, purple bruises he had. "Are you alright? See I knew this was going to happen! I told you to stay behind but you wouldn’t listen-"
"You wouldn’t listen to me when I told you James was trouble!" He shouted. I was taken aback by the anger in his voice.
"I know, and I’m sorry." I apologized. "I’m sorry all of this happened. Can I do anything to help you?"
"You can leave me alone." He grumbled as he walked over to the bed. He took his jacket off and flung it onto a chair.
"Fine," I said. I turned the doorknob and opened the door.
"Wait, I’m sorry. I don’t want you to leave me alone." Dally mumbled. He looked up at me, and for the first time in a long time, he actually looked hurt.
I smiled to myself and went to sit beside him. “What’s wrong Dal. You know you can tell me anything right? I know it doesn’t have anything to do with tonight.”
"I don’t wanna talk about it."
"Can I ask you for a favour?" He asked.
"Can I have a kiss?" Dally looked at me. For once, his cold eyes seemed warm. Maybe the socs punched him a little too hard…
"O-okay," I leaned in and kissed his cheek. I pulled away and he looked at me like I was crazy.
"What?" I asked, annoyance obvious in my tone.
"The hell was that? I meant like this." He grabbed my face and kissed me hard. It was perfection.
"Pony! Come help me finish up dinner while your brothers are still out!" I called from the kitchen.
“Coming (y/n)! What do I need to do?” Ponyboy said as he walked into the room.
“Just toss that salad over there and get plates out onto the table. ” I replied while taking a roast out of the oven. Just then, Soda and Darry came through the door.
“Hey (y/n)!” Soda said as he bounded into his room to change out of his work clothes.
“Hi there sweetheart.” Darry said as his hands circled my waist and he kissed me on the lips.
“Pony and I just finished making dinner. You and Soda should go wash up.” I responded breathily.
After everyone washed up for supper, we sat down and dug in. “Tomorrow I have to go to the West Side for an appointment. I’ll have to call work to tell them I’ll be in late.” I told Darry while we ate our roast.
“Why do you need to go into Soc territory for an appointment (y/n)?” Darry replied looking confused.
“Because I think I might be pregnant.” Forks rattled onto plates as Pony, Darry and Soda looked at me in surprise
